Hungry? Hangry? Or feeling empty? Maybe you just need to eat something worth it!

In the busy streets of Metro Manila, you can always find good-tasting food. Depending on your mood, taste, and budget, you can always find one near your place. And there are the most popular and well-loved food chains with over a hundred branches out there that can quench your thirst and satisfy your cravings.

But sometimes, when you’re too lazy to drive far, you just want to stick within your radar. Going to your nearest mall with lots of food choices is always a good idea! However, as much as you want to fulfill your cravings like eating your chicken thigh with its oozing juiciness and gravy, you already hate the idea of long lines at the counter and waiting tables.

Then you’ll either end up eating your favorite dish after the waiting game, (It is always worth it! We know!)or you’ll just settle with eating your not-so-favourite food at your not-so-favourite restaurant.

But even with hesitations, you’re willing to try new restaurants and fulfill a particular craving! So considering the taste, value for money, and proximity, we’ve got some suggestions for your next restaurant trip.

For our first Munch trip — Try Yoshinoya!

Yoshinoya was born in 1899 under the ingenuity of its founder, a Japanese, named Eikichi Matsuda. Their story began in Nihonbashi, a humble fish market in Chuo-ku, Tokyo, on the outskirts of Edo Castle where Mr. Matsuda created a delicious recipe of beef and rice known as Gyudon (beef bowl). Named for his birthplace of Yoshino-Cho, Osaka, Mr. Matsuda’s restaurant featured delicious, affordable, and fast meals.
Over the years Yoshinoya's menu changed to reflect today's consumers, except for Gyudon -- Yoshinoya's specialty. It is the same product profile where Yoshinoya operates in other parts of the world. The core product is prepared using premium beef with the special beef stock over a steaming bowl of white rice.

ATMNL: “The restaurant that looks expensive but it isn’t!”

The review:

**Some dishes — needs improvement.

1. Noodles – Not ideal to try for the first timers. When my mom tried their ramen, she wasn’t able to finish it and she gave an average rating when I asked her about the taste. My niece and I also tasted it and yup, it tastes like your average ramen (maybe because we’ve already tried some of the best-tasting ramen around the Metro or that’s just how it is — not our preferred dish atm). But if you want to try, go for it!

2. Coffee Jelly –It tastes average, too! Maybe they can improve their recipe. The sweetness of the whipped cream and chocolate syrup doesn’t compliment the espresso-like jelly. They went a bit too literal with that approach! (Sorry, just not that fond of it!)

Pros:

1. Price is at par with other Japanese fast food chains, but the food looks way better and it’s definitely Instagram-worthy! Their rice and bento meals taste delicious and they serve more than the usual grams of beef (vs. other beef/rice bowls with same price). Their shrimp tempura is not cut in half and it has a reasonable amount of breading.(Shout out to our hated Japanese fast-foods that serve fatty and lesser amounts of beef in a misono recipe and breading with a shrimp that’s cut into half. Haha!)
Editor’s top pick!

You can get their solo meal at P179 – an authentic Beef Gyudon, coffee jelly and your choice of iced tea (green or red tea).  While they also have a platter for sharing – Good for 2 to 3 pax with a choice of beef or pork with veggies.

2. The ambiance is delightful and refreshing (with good background music!) Their color scheme – orange and green – and lots of Japanese decorations like origami will surely entice customers to take snapshots while enjoying their food.

Branch in particular: The SM Fairview branch (at the Annex) is clean, well-ventilated, and spacious. The location is perfect for solo shoppers who want to enjoy me-time, to parents waiting for kids since it’s just near the kid play areas, to couples, and to families, too! Aside from that, their comfort room is clean!

The restaurant is not crowded ( or you won’t feel so even when it is full ) because the tables and chairs are arranged with proper spacing. Plus, it’s comfortable! (And cute!)
3. Staff are approachable.  They’ve won our hearts maybe because we also treated them well or we requested things politely. (Let’s all be very particular on our approach to food servers — be mindful and remind ourselves that we don’t want to experience any of the horror stories behind the food halls).

4. Food service is quick! Unlike other restos that serve as quick as if they’re serving 30 or more customers! 😜 Service water and condiments are neatly arranged andavailable near the counter.

Can you share with us your experience at other Yoshinoya branches? Let us know what you think!

Be consistent and include these as part of your daily bread. Ask every member of your family (at least) to support you and do the same. Like a ripple effect, at least 5/10 ratio of people has a bigger impact than 2/10 ratio of saving mother earth.
