WHY? Is it the prospect of finally snapping that perfect Instagram-worthy travel photo? Is it the endless food choices? Is it meeting new people from exciting new places? Or maybe it’s something that's on a much deeper level that keeps us coming back for more?
Well, it could be all those reasons, but mostly it's because of a much deeper level! Too deep? Let's uncover some of the reasons which you've surely felt at least once or twice:
Travelling includes waiting for discounted flights and facing the hurdles of budgeting and itinerary-creating. We become more considerate when it comes to flight delays, lost luggage, or just getting off at the wrong stop. These problems aren't always fun and perfect, but it teaches us that when things become challenging or something goes wrong, we have to roll with it and make a new plan. We just have to use our resources and not let these problems affect our overall experience.
Facing these struggles makes us feel accomplished – which later on, might be part of our favourite travel experience.
News (both local and foreign) sure has a way of making the world seem like a scary place. Bomb threats and attacks, criminal rates increasing as they appear on our news feeds, racial discrimination everywhere... It's definitely scary. But that doesn't mean we should lock ourselves in the comfort of our homes. If we're responsible and always aware of our surroundings and safety, travelling isn't so scary.
Does it feel good to trust your gut? To move to a place of understanding rather than living in constant fear?
This doesn't mean you should go to uncharted places and live #YOLO everywhere. What we're saying is that travelling forces us to put our trust in the goodness of others. Even if we don't speak the exact same language or uphold the same beliefs and cultures, us humans have something in common. We just need to trust ourselves and rely on others every now and then.
A perfect example of this is just by reading travel blogs or reviews written by people we don't really know. We trust that their information will help us navigate unfamiliar waters - it's a manifestation of trusting the world.
Besides helping you trust the world, travelling can also make you fall in love with it. It ignites the feeling of falling in love for the first time. Simply put - when we travel, we marvel at things we've never known or seen and we suddenly have a bursting feeling of happiness. Sort of like falling in love!
Travelling is basically a never-ending love story disguised as an adventure. We fall in love with the views, with the ideas, and with the discoveries and memories we make along the way.
Travelling can make life seem a whole lot more beautiful, like what love makes us feel!
Even when flying solo, the act of travel is inevitably a social endeavor.
When we travel, we're required to talk with other people - with the front desk officer, your tour mates, or the tour guide. We can't just disregard the fact that we need to make polite conversations to learn more about the situations we're in or the country we're visiting.
Travelling is also meant to be another way of building new friendships and strengthening existing ones! It improves our ability to make small talk and deep conversations - something that should be considered as a true skill we can carry in all aspects of our lives.
When traveling, we see corners of the world that are entirely different from our own. These differences can be social, cultural, or economic. Regardless, these often let us view our own lives through different lenses. This does not always mean that we see what others lack in life, rather, we realize how #blessed we are to have all that we do and how we are given opportunities to see the beauty in the world.
Travelling can make us realize that some cultures are content to live with much less which sometimes can make our lives back home seem more extravagant and materialistic. These sometimes harsh realities can be the pill that we need to swallow!
Again, by introducing us to new ways of living, travel forces us to reevaluate our own lives, get comfortable with uncomfortable truths, and pledge to look at our lives from new perspectives often for the better!
As human beings, it's not in our nature to sit and waste our existence by accepting things as they are. From building the first fire to sending a man to the moon, we humans are constantly looking for what's next.
For those of us who are not investors or scientists, travel is, essentially, our way of discovery. We are constantly facing challenging adventures when we travel, but the act of agreeing to do something in new and unknown environment tests our limits and ourselves.
Discovering that you can do it (whatever it is as long as it won't cause you any harm!) can also mean that you can fly to the moon! Because nothing is impossible. 😉
No matter what your motivation is for booking your next trip, believe us when we say you'll surely reap enormous benefits both mentally and physically.
Travel can make you grow and understand yourself better.
Going out of your comfort zone will teach you how to deal with new environments, challenge you to get off your phone, and actively seek out new experiences. You'll literally boost your health by going outdoors, and it'll help you develop your sense of self making you more proactive!
Travelling is said to be a lesson in appreciating where we come from. Differences between our culture and the ones we are immersed in during our travels make us realize just how much we take for granted in our lives back home - from big things (like the tipping system) down to the small things (like how we love to eat rice)!
Travel also makes you realize that your relationships are some of your most treasured possessions.
There may be nothing like spending the holidays in another country, but we'll always remember the people at home - whether it'd be buying souvenirs for them or sending them photos with captions saying we're doing okay. These are simple manifestations of how much we love our home and how there's no place like it.
Travelling is a blessing! We feel #blessed because it makes us more willing to receive the world's many lessons, no matter their shape or size. It helps us recognize our shared humanity with others while removing our inner fear to learn new things.
Our takeaway, it's much more fun to love the world rather than to be afraid of it!
