8 reasons to watch Black Mirror
Even if you've never tried watching an episode of this show, you may have heard about it from a friend or a coworker. Simply put, it's a sci-fi anthology TV series that's all about the advancement of technology in the near future. Each episode has different characters and different storylines that will grip you from start to finish.
Here we've listed down the reasons why we liked it, which may probably be reasons for you to check it out as well!
1. It's mostly about technology
Not saying it's all about Snapchat or IGTV and such, but it's mostly about the advancements of technology. You'll see how the people in the show deal with the changes in the world and how it affects their daily lives. It's not something we can directly relate to, but when you think about it, you'll realize it's the world we live in - and it's only getting crazier and crazier each day.
2. There's lots of love... and pain
With love comes pain. But with pain, comes love! Not all the episodes are purely romantic or they're not the romcoms we're getting used to these days, but these stories give you the dose of reality you never knew you needed.
3. There's lots of familiar faces
You'll be surprised to see certain celebrities all throughout the series. Here are some of the familiar faces you might recognize:
- Bryce Dallas Howard - Jurassic World, The Twilight Saga
- Letitia Wright - Black Panther, Avengers: Infinity War
- Gugu Mbatha-Raw - A Wrinkle In Time, Irreplaceable You
- Domhnall Gleeson - Stars Wars, Peter Rabbit
- Hayley Atwell - Captain America: The First Avenger
- Jesse Plemons - Game Night
- Cristin Milioti - How I Met Your Mother, The Mindy Project
And there's so much more who will make you go WHOA when you see them on the screen!
4. It's suspenseful
Some episodes can scare or shock you, and that's why we love it! One second you think everything's going dandy but then something happens and it makes you think and stay at the edge of your seats.
5. It has the right amount of drama
Don't worry - it's not like the usual cheesy telenovela where you already know what's going to happen in the next scene. Some episodes will make you fall in love with the characters and then hurt you in a matter of minutes, or sometimes you'll see how a character you thought you 'hated' will get their redemption.
Each episode has a different storyline and a different genre so you won't get tired of constant dragging scenes and nonstop back and forth.
6. It gives us a dose of reality
Black Mirror isn't all about the sophistication and the perfection of life. It's actually the opposite - it gives you the truth behind what we, as a society, consider normal these days. And that from here on, if things don't change for the better, it might only get worse for all of us.
What happens when everything, even the most mundane things like buying coffee or interacting with workmates, becomes something you need to rate on social media? What happens when our eyes record everything we see and experience 24/7? What happens when you can install a tracker in your child that allows you to see everything they see and do wherever they go? What happens when you can physically, mentally, and literally block
someone you no longer wish to interact with?
Sure, the idea is all fancy and interesting, and it can be something we want in the near future. But Black Mirror shows us that even the grey things in life can be seen in black and white.
7. It has an equal amount of serious and comedy
This isn't a series that will bore you out of your mind because of its technicalities. You don't need to understand difficult terms or jargon just to understand what's going on.
Black Mirror has that perfect dose of everything in between that will make you interested. You don't even have to be a fan of sci-fi just to like this. From start to finish, you'll want to see this whole series through -- and even after that you'll keep talking about this to your friends and on social media!
8. You won't ever get bored
Trust us - getting bored is something you won't ever experience about this show. For some of our other favorite TV shows, there are just those episodes you want to skip because they're dragging and they're not really interesting.
However, because each episode has a different story in Black Mirror, you won't find yourself getting bored. Sure, at first you might not completely understand what's going on. But as the story progresses, you'll find yourself getting more and more gripped to see how it all turns out. Will there be a happy ending? Or will it end in tragedy? There's only one thing you can do to find out - keep watching!
There are plenty more reasons to watch this show, and these are just some of them! Even though you'll be surprised at what's happening at first, you'll realize it's actually something you can relate to.
Black Mirror is available on Netflix. You need to watch all four seasons to understand why we like this show so much. The first two seasons only have three episodes each so it won't be too stressful to watch. We wanted to give you a full review of the whole series but that's not too easy if we don't want to spoil you. (Perhaps someday soon!)
A little story time: the first episode of the first season was a bit too much for our tastes. Or, it's not too much because you won't see anything that you're not supposed to see. But you might not want to watch it while you're eating. (Confession: we skipped the first episode after scanning through the whole thing. We know what happened, but we chose not to watch the whole thing.)
One friend we've referred the show to said that the show stressed her out. And there are episodes that will really stress you out! But they'll also leave you wanting more so we suggest watching until the last episode of the fourth season! Of course, feel free to skip certain episodes when you think the premise is too much. But we watched the whole thing (just except the very first episode) and it was definitely worth it!
