The review:
JLA! Another one of our most anticipated films this year is here and we're so stoked! Whether you're a superhero fan or you're not, you should still check this out and see the film that's brought together some of the greatest superheroes ever!
This film isn't as dark as you would expect it to be, especially after 'Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice'. We're part of the minority who actually liked that film, but Justice League is competitive enough to come after the new DC trend, following the lead of Patty Jenkins and Gal Gadot's 'Wonder Woman'.
We can all (if not most)
agree that we loved Wonder Woman. So think of this film as Diana Prince working with guys who, like her, have special abilities. At one point she even said, "Children. I work with children." which was definitely amusing to see. Here you get a bunch of people who are trying to figure themselves out and at the same time, figuring out how to save the human race.
The script is funny and the visual effects is notably done thanks to the characters we are all familiar with and those characters we'll get to meet for the first time, and the chemistry between all of them is something you'll appreciate especially at the end (take note of that fist-bump!).
It's a commonly known fact that Marvel and DC have been compared with each other, and Marvel may come on top of the other. Still, we give DC a lot of credit for bringing these iconic characters to life. You may agree with us that DC may have some issues in stitching together the stories of each character and building them up separately as comic fans would really appreciate, but 'Justice League' is no Marvel movie (duh!), nor does it give you 'Easter eggs' you've gotten used to in seeing the 'Avengers', as they're two different universes anyway.
Perhaps that is their strategy and it is what we are looking forward to now. Another Justice League Movie? Or separate movies for each superhero? (Talks and news about upcoming DC movies are available, thanks to the internet!)
This may just be coming from neutral DC/Marvel fans, but the negative reviews may already affect the way you look at this franchise. Still, if you've grown up loving Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, The Flash, Aquaman, Cyborg, and all the other DC characters, you should definitely see this. Or even if you're not a fan, it's still worth seeing to make up your own thoughts about the film!
Characters: 5/5
All of them are equally appealing! The breathtaking slow-mo every time Wonder Woman moves, the confidence of Aquaman, the youthfulness of The Flash, the obscure nature of Cyborg (We actually learned a lot of plot twists in his story! and you can do so but expect the unexpected from DC.
;)), and of course, just looking at Batman and Superman, (like... whoa! THEY ARE OUR SUPERHEROES - WE CANNOT EXPLAIN THE FEELING!) And at the end of the film, we just want to hug them and see them again together!
Story: 3/5
We are still hoping for more intense fight scenes. Come on, DC! We know you can do better!
Effects: 5/5
Slow-mo, extreme close up, and that perfect production setup : the feel of Gotham City, the sepia tone of Smallville and the distinct presentation of other kingdoms -- they deserve applause!
Score and soundtrack: 4/5
We stayed until the post-credits: Where was Batman's theme played, really?
Overall atmnl rating: 4/5
As we mentioned, we got used to the dark side of DC movies which was the most significant distinction of their heroes from the other superhero universes, but this major leap is something to watch out for especially now that every member of the family can watch the film with nothing to worry about.
