Brooklyn Nine-Nine is currently on top of our list of the funniest and most popular shows on TV.  It has a trademark brand of humor that's pivoting from slapstick goofery to witty barbs and smart character-based gags that are delivered effortlessly.

The sitcom showcases a consistent and appealing plot which attributes its current success. It also features a strong collection of cop characters  who are very convincing and “relatable”.

Now, you might have read it somewhere over and over again, but you might still be wondering why everyone is raving about this cop series - which is basically surreal from the cops we all know around the corner. Because the ensemble is so pure and cool that even you could consider as 'perfect', you'll definitely want to be part of this dysfunctional crew of Nine-Nine!

1. Jake Peralta is the character you'll want to be. Sometimes.

When the show started, Jake Peralta was introduced to us as the main protagonist - Jake is a very competent and intelligent detective. However, as the story unfolds, we discover how "too cool" Jake is and that he's more focused on humor than he is on work.

After a few seasons, it seems that his charm overshadowed his immaturity. It can be argued that he sort of grew up. He became more sensitive about the people around him. And even though he has trouble expressing his feelings by preferring to crack jokes, he learns to reveal his feelings in the coolest way possible. ;)

Jake remains to be the cool detective you want to be - if you were a detective, your boss is Hoult, you're allowed to run a heist inside your office, and if you can deliver witty barbs. We all have that feeling of wanting to be awesome and cool at all times, thinking about humor in a dragging or risky situation. However, as life progresses, we'll realize that it's difficult to go against the current. But Andy Samberg, A.K.A. Jake “the genius” Peralta, makes us realize that the good and bad side of being awesome is always there. He made us believe that we can be mature and immature at the same time. No judgments!

2. We are all Rosa

Rosa is always one of the most favorite characters, not only in this series, but in the industry because she represents everyone's "grumpy inner-self" from memes to real-life quotes. A huge portion of the show is devoted to portraying Rosa as the outspoken detective who is never afraid to show her true colors (which is technically bloody red). She is smart, attractive, and very brutal.

It is her timid smile and “Fear is a powerful aphrodisiac” motto that fuels our desire to shut off the world sometimes, too. While this is presented in a very humorous fashion in the show, there is a dark familiarity to this.

We have all been made inferior to other people, whether it was intentional or not. Basically, this was experienced by Rosa in her dark past and we see how she feels about it. Still, she gives us a strong feeling of empowerment. She shows us that it's okay to be strong and firm as long as you're not hurting anyone.

Well, Rosa might have physically hurt some of her colleagues and friends and burned office supplies but she'll never betray the precinct and she keeps blocking the negativity to protect their relationships and friendships while in Nine-nine.

Plus the fact that she came out bisexual in the previous season - it's easy to see why this character is very lovable!

3. Charles represent us when shipping "Peraltiago"

In Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Jake and Amy are basically our Romeo and Juliet - two lovers from different worlds/personalities falling for each other. It's definitely not what we're expecting even though Jake has been rooting for Amy since day one. However, that's what their romance is all about - something different - and we're totally loving it!

We think fans aren't the only group who have noticed the sparks between the two. Charles Boyle, Jake's best friend, has been shipping this couple since the beginning of time! He has even prepared for their wedding (spoiler alert!) but he did a great job of pulling that off! It's a real fairy tale that definitely doesn't hurt anyone.
Boyle noticed that Jake and Amy have great chemistry, he even prayed for Peraltiago babies! ASAP! We're pretty sure your heart will M-E-L-T everytime you watch Peraltiago moments from the show.

4. Scully and Hitchcock are the most awkward characters ever! But we can deal with it. ;)

Scully and Hitchcock go off on their own disgusting and outlandish adventures on a daily basis, from talking about their ailments to going to their secret hideout.

While most paint these shenanigans as the activities of old and odd cop characters, it actually shows how guys view their times with their best pals. When guys get together, especially those who are at a certain age with responsibilities and families, it always feels like an adventure regardless of the actual activity. Everytime we see them on screen, they're not annoying - they're tolerable. If they're not for you, just consider how blunt the gags could be if there's no Scully and Hitchcock doing the oddest things in the background.

5. Detective Sergeant Terry and Captain Ray Holt, our mom and dad? dad and mom? dad and dad? or mom and mom?

Father knows best? More like a mother knows best? Or both? In Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Captain Ray Holt and Sergeant Terry Jeffords make the ensemble more interesting and diverse with their style in teaching the detectives to be more logical and tough.

These two guys are like parents who offer wisdom and show the silver lining in the oddest situations. They are not literally or figuratively together but both are portraying good family backgrounds along with their strong beliefs in life. They are the people we can't resist to look up to and at the same time we wouldn't want to mess with them.

At first, Captain Holt has a neurotic style of mentoring his subordinates but it was balanced out by the goofiness of Sergeant Terry. Their witty barbs and one-liners are some of the funniest parts of Brooklyn Nine-Nine as viewers watch how their children (the detectives) transition from immature to less immature adults.

6. We are always rooting for Gina, Rosa, and Amy!

One of the most impressive things about this show is its attitude towards its female characters. The creators Goor and Schur created a place that is essentially gender-blind in the best way possible. There is never a moment when a female character must strive to prove herself in a ‘boys club’ environment; everything is on pretty equal footing from the start.

Sure, every character fights to prove themselves to the captain and to each other in a competitive environment, but there is never any doubt over the ability of women in the role of a police detective.

The females are not just ‘trophy-wife' like, they are pivotal for the group and strong in their own different ways. It becomes so normal that women and men can work alongside each other in law enforcement that fans of the show may not even consider this a selling point, just a given.

Brooklyn Nine-Nine is a rare gem among TV cop sitcoms. A smart and fast-paced show that never fails to make us laugh, feel light , and sometimes cry at very touching and human moments. A consistent comfort show for many. A series that can be treated like your fave running gags - it can be rewatched while still being fun and hilarious. You can see how the characters develop as if you are part of their world. There's never a dull moment at the nine-nine!

Be consistent and include these as part of your daily bread. Ask every member of your family (at least) to support you and do the same. Like a ripple effect, at least 5/10 ratio of people has a bigger impact than 2/10 ratio of saving mother earth.
