The thought of doing something new or out of your comfort zone can be tough, especially when you’ve been stuck in it for so long. From riding a bicycle for the first time, or trying that new restaurant everyone’s been raving about — there are things you want to do, but somehow don’t see enough reason why you should do it!
But, worry not! We’ve made a short compilation on why we should take the effort of trying new things, no matter how little they may be.
1. It’s fun! (That’s the most basic reason! ) It’s going to feel very accomplishing once you’ve done it. And it helps you step away from the same old boring circle of having to do your daily tasks the same way. There is always a “new thing” to try even in the simplest and most mundane situation.
For example — have you tried eating breakfast in that nearby café? Or walking your way with a mindset that something positive will happen? Smile! Try it out! You’ll realize that even the littlest things you do for yourself can make a huge change.
P.S. Maybe with that smile, you can win a friend or just share some of that good vibration!
But we’re not asking you to try things that you know would be bad for yourself! Here at atMNL, we’re all about trying the good experiences! (Those that won’t get you in trouble!) :P
Here’s another example — what if you’re too afraid to leave your current job even though it’s starting to suffocate you? Sometimes, you’re too afraid to leave because you’re scared of that much-dreaded first day stress. Or you’re anxious because you’ll have to train yourself for another job. Overall, you just don’t want to leave because you don’t want the stress that comes with starting fresh!
And at one point in your life, you might experience this —you’ve got the promotion, but because you’re too anxious about it, you’ve dragged yourself down to the idea that you have to face the “expectations vs. reality” situation. Or maybe you just had the thought that everyone might be watching you and waiting to judge you!
But then, if you actually talked yourself into taking the risk and proving to yourself that you deserve so much more, you’ll see that you’re starting to develop and improve into a better version of you!
3. While we’ve already established it’s fun, trying new things could also help you
end a boring routine.
If you're still deeming to check more boxes on your bucket list, what’s stopping you? Do you want to go to work early so you could also leave early? If you can (for flexi-time, semi-flexi) why not try it? You will be surprised at how it can change your mood. It can also be a way of getting rid of all anxieties of doing or feeling less.
4. It’s okay to go out of your comfort zone because it could help you meet new people. And you know what? These people could share the same sentiments you have!
One way or another, people around us can ‘change’ us, even those we just recently met. They influence how we think, how we react, or just simply how we look at the world.
And because you’re just starting to get to know them – their likes and dislikes – you make some adjustments. From then on, these people can also convince you to jump out of your comfort zone (may it be positive or not).
5. Hesitation and fear both exist for a reason, so don’t be surprised if you feel it along the course of stepping out of your comfort zone. But here’s another point to consider — you’ll get to decide what you really want for yourself.
Wondering and deciding for yourself is a continuous process. You may feel like you’ll never be able to figure yourself out. It might be a bit tricky, but through trying new things, you’re giving yourself a couple of points of comparison to see what you really want to do!
6. You’ll see how big the world really is and how small we are in comparison. But don’t worry — you’ve got the time to explore the beauty that the world (or at least the Philippines, rather ;)) has to offer!
Trying out new things still can be scary the more you think about it. It could even make you want to curl into fetal position and stay there for months at end. But one thing’s for sure — once you do it, it’ll make you feel like nothing else!
Sure, some of these may sound serious and deep, but don’t think we’re all about the major stuff here. Actually, we’re here to convince you that there’s fun in the seemingly serious moments!
There are new things in everything. Even in things that you’ve been doing your whole life. And this is what we’re all about — finding the thrill in doing “new” things!
